People, not spokespersons.
The six principal characters will be the emotional heart of Sydney Served. Character discovery is currently under way.
What makes the right story
We are looking for people with a genuine present-day journey rather than a rehearsed message. Each character should open a different door into Sydney and bring a world the audience can experience, not simply hear described.
- Present-tense stakes: something meaningful is happening now.
- Access: we can observe the person in the places and relationships that matter.
- Contrast: the six lives feel distinct when placed beside one another.
- Cultural specificity: identity is shown through lived detail, not reduced to a label.
- Generosity: the person is willing to let an audience understand both strength and uncertainty.
- Connection to the clock: their rhythm gives the twenty-four-hour structure meaning.
Who we hope to meet
They may be established or still finding their footing; publicly visible or rarely noticed; newly arrived or part of a family whose story spans generations. Their contribution may happen through work, family, community, culture, care, enterprise or service.
A careful process
An introduction is only the beginning. Every potential participant will have time to understand the documentary, discuss access and make an informed decision before filming. No participant will be announced until discovery, consent and access planning are complete.
